Many people want nothing more than the comfort and quiet dignity of a traditional style when they go to the library. These projects, many of them historic restorations, offer just that.
DC Public Library restored the Takoma Park Neighborhood Library based on the original blueprints for the 1911 Renaissance Revival building. Many architectural and design features had been lost in prior renovations, including the furniture, which was custom-built from quarter-sawn oak based on the original furniture drawings. The building also upgraded its electrical and data systems, and installed environmentally sustainable cork floors.
