Watha T. Daniel / Shaw Library FLOOR PLANS
(Evolution of images put up on DCPL website on July 25 and then the latest on
September 16)
JULY 25, 2008 -- STREET LEVEL

SEPT 16, 2008 -- STREET LEVEL

Please excuse the pixelation. This September image of the Street Level has
been edited by the Library Dynamos so that it can actually be somewhat legible.
Unfortunately, DC Public Library staff has uploaded images that aren't nearly
as clear as the ones shown on the website back in July.

Some initial notes about the changes:
- For unknown reasons, the Children's Play Area and 3-5 Year Old Collection
has been flipped horizontally?
- The entrance seems not as grand, with most of the door area taken
up with a Materials Return box.
- The Children's Sights & Sounds area has been significantly reduced?
Not sure why it was as large as it was in the first place, but it is
unclear what has replaced it?
- The computers that used to line the walls of the Juvenile Collection
area have been moved to the diagonal wall along Rhode Island Ave. Additionally,
there are four less computer stations now.
- The Staff Work Room still seems to be walled in and separate from
the main floor -- eliminating sight lines between staff and customers.
- The Restroom has been moved, flipped vertically, and still only has
one toilet.
- The "I" marks seem to indicate support beams? If
this is the case there is a beam right in the middle of the main floor
near the Children's Reference area.
- The Just Returned and Express Pick Upareas still seem to be taking
up precious floor space instead of being in the large Staff Work Room
where they would seem to naturally go.

The quality of the September images are poor. We are not sure why the September
floor plans aren't as clear as the ones from July. For
the unedited September floor plans, please go directly to the DCPL website and
