1) Introductions

2) Review of September 12 Benning Dynamo Meeting Notes

3) Introduction of Mrs. Juanita Montague, President of the Benning Library Friends Group. Mrs. Montague gave us a brief review of the history of the Friends in Benning and how they would help raise funds for our library and provide popular events, like book sales, and other fun ideas centered around our Benning library.

4) Review of Action Items and Follow-up

TASKS COMPLETED

TASKS STILL IN PROGRESS

  • Create a way for folks to communicate with the Board of Trustees and City Council by email and also get phone and fax numbers and disseminate (Chris O.)

  • Prepare and act on a different kind of communication with those folks who ran for the Ward 7 Council seat in 2006 and with Councilmember Alexander. (Dora F.)

  • Canvass at Metro stops (Cleve M.)

  • Work with local schools first by collecting school data such as phone, fax, and emails of principals and PTAs and then begin contacting them to join in the efforts around the library (Darrell M., David B., Elaine W.)

  • Use the survey to outreach to neighbors and friends so to maximize the number of voices weighing in about the Benning Library. (All of us).

NEW TASKS

  • Continue drafting formal letter to Chief Librarian Ginnie Cooper to get a hold of a plan and timeline for our library and to determine if DCPL is working closely with CityInterests to integrate parking plans among other things. (Victor V. and Willette S.)

  • Draft a letter to Mayor Adrian Fenty with questions about integrating libraries as part of the school system revitalization program seeing how they are very interconnected for our youth. (David B. and Renatta B.)

  • Set up Benning Dynamo email listserve (Chris O.)


5) ANNOUNCEMENTS

  • Benning Dynamo participants are strongly encouraged to come out to DCPL's Anacostia Library Design meeting. This is the follow-up meeting to the Anacostia "Hopes and Dreams" meeting and will help us understand what may be in store for us in Benning. It also gives us a chance to network with our Anacostia friends who have been similarly disappointment with how their library has was closed with little public input. Meeting info below >>
