* The group took turns commenting on this latest iteration of the new Shaw exterior
design. Here is some feedback by Ward 2 residents at these meetings:
- It looks like the old library, a bunker.
- What happened to all the glass? We have slot windows again, like the old
one?
- Rumor is that the green roof is being left out of the construction.
- There is no changes to the entrance -- where is it? Weren't we promised
a grand entrance?
- Can there be an outdoor courtyard on the massive sidewalk?
- Where is the landscaping?
There are comments going up on Shaw community blogs as these new design images leak out to the public. Please visit the following sites and we encourage you
to add your own comments to these blogs to help substantiate the concern.

Here are more images of what was unveiled on January 30, 2008

The above images were taken directly from the DCPL website when they were
put up in February 2008.
The images below were photographed by a Shaw blogger who happened to attend
the January 30, 2008 design meeting. These images below were put up on Commissioner
Chapple's website.

Here are images of what was unveiled nearly seven months later on June 23, 2008 at a public design meeting in Shaw. These images were finally put up on the DCPL website in late July 2008 after complaints at the July 23, 2008 Board of Library Trustees meeting.
These are the only two new Shaw library design images available on the DC Public Library website.
* Is it a dramatic change from January version?
* Does it seem in the latest design the glass largely disappeared? Why?
* Do the windows in the latest design from June 23, 2008 suggest a feeling of
the demolished Shaw library?
* There are rumors that the library will not be including the green roof as
shown on January 30, 2008. Why?
We
want to know what you think... Saturday August 16, 2008!
On Tuesday, July 29, 2008, Chief Librarian Ginnie Cooper hosted a randomly planned meeting for Advisory Neighborhood Commissioners at Martin Luther King Library.
Commissioners residing in the areas affected by closed libraries and their subsequent chairs were supposedly asked to come to downtown DC for a random meeting about the libraries. Only two ANC Commissioners were able to make time in their busy schedules to be there. Chair of ANC 2C, Doris Brooks, was never notified, except by phone from the Shaw Library Study Group and was able to be there.
Not much came of the meeting... in fact, the images that were shown to these two Commissioners were dated by more than six months. Archie Williams, DC Public Libraries Intergovernmental Liaison, showed CMR Brooks images of the Shaw design dating to January 30, 2008.
Here is a photo taken of the binders that DCPL staff were planning to show
any ANC Commissioners that happened to show up to this July 29, 2008 meeting
at MLK Library. As you can see the binders were showing Shaw library designs
dating back to January 2008.

This picture was taken on July 29, 2008, as evidence that DCPL staff are still
showing ANC Commissioners older and dated design images.
