Video Report: Rally to Save West End Library on July 14, 2007

On July 14, 2007, about 75 folks rallied outside of the West End Library to demonstrate against the gift of public property to private developers -- in this case we are talking about an operating library, police station, and firehouse to a private developer called EastBanc.

Ralph Nader spoke to the crowd about his support to save DC's libraries and public property. He has a letter in to Linda Singer, DC's Attorney General, about the the law regarding "emergency resolutions" such as the one passed by the City Council handing over the land rights of which the library sits on to a private developer.

Parisa Norouzi also addressed the crowd to help build on the momentum of community outrage and energy to build a movement to save our libraries.

If this continues on any and all public property is at risk to the whims of the City Council without public input so to appease the profit motives of wealthy private developers.
