Green Libraries
Below is a collection of articles and resources showing how libraries around the nation are going green. DC's new neighborhood libraries are planned to all be L.E.E.D. certified Silver, not the higher Gold or Platinum awards. Promises of a vegetative green roof were made for the new Anacostia, Tenleytown, Benning, and Shaw libraries. Unfortunately more recently, DC Public Libraries has determined that they will not include a vegetative green roof for the Shaw library without any substantial reason as to why. The situation in the Ward 2 Shaw community is contrary to promises made at the start of the library transformation process and does not seem to fit the trend of civic buildings around the nation aiming to go green.
