Mount Pleasant Library Conversations

The following brief notes have been written by Chris Otten, of the District Dynamos, which may help paint a clearer contextual picture of the Mount Pleasant Library project.

Archie Williams (DCPL) 2/20/09 5:15pm
* Archie sent an email to Ward One Commissioners forwarding Yaiza Burrell's announcement for the 2/24/09 meeting at the Mt Pl Library.
* He went on to imply that this meeting will address all the problems and he will be there to help.
* There is concern among Commissioners that this is a way for DCPL to blow off the ANC's as Archie implies in the email that this meeting would substitute for his attendance at ANC 1C's March 4 meeting.
* Commissioners are developing a response; CMR Edwards thinks Tuesday's meeting could be a DCPL trap.

Amanda Abrams (DC North reporter) 2/19/09
* Is calling Coalition participants to get information and write a story for the next March edition.
* Amanda has explained to some W1LC peoples that DCPL's communication guy, George Williams, recently stated that DCPL was proud of their outreach plans and procedures for MtPl.
* Please contact Amanda to keep her informed of the situation, manda.abrams (( at )) gmail (( dot )) com

MOCA Yaiza Garabito-Burrell 2/18/09 5:45pm
* I thanked Yaiza extensively for trying to help the neighbors of Ward One work through the ignorance of DCPL and Ginnie Cooper.
* She explained that Tuesday's meeting will more likely be the first in a series of meetings as I explained that this type of meeting usually creates more questions than answers.
* Who will be there: her, her colleague Rachel Katner, DCPL staff, architects, maybe Sarah Laettner. We are not sure if Jim Graham or Mayor Fenty will be there at this point.
* She was born and raised in DC and she realizes that DC residents shouldn't be left out of such an important community project.
